有珠山2000年噴火の様式と活動の変化

Geochemical and Geothermal Study Associated with the Usu 2000 Eruption, and Changes of It's Activity

Abstract

Seismic activity and ground deformation at the summit area of Usu volcano started about one week before the Usu 2000 Eruption. The eruption took place at Nishiyama crater on 31 March after 23 years dormancy. After the eruption, phreatomagmatic or phreatic eruption are continued at the Nishiyama and Konpira craters. The eruptive activity is decreased gradually.
Geochemical and geothermal observations carried out to understand the mechanism and change of eruptive activity from just after the eruption. The observation results indicate the subsurface water is closely connected with the eruptive activity and its change. The water is one of the primary factors of rapid decline of the eruptive activity.
