Typhoon 9810 passed through Okayama Prefecture on October 17, 1998. The heavy rainfall during the typhoon caused disastrous flooding. Twenty-four AMeDAS observation stations have been installed in the prefecture by the Meteorological Agency, and about 150 rainfall observation stations have been installed by the Ministry of Construction and Okayama Prefecture. At Onbara Station (Yoshii River basin) in Kamisaibara Village in the northern part of Okayama Prefecture, the maximum amount of precipitation in a 24-hour period was 236 mm. The amount of accumulated precipitation was over 200 mm from the central to the northern part of the prefecture. In the Yoshiigawa River basin in Tsuyama City and Yoshii Town, residential land and farmland were flooded. The loss due to flooding in Okayama Prefecture caused by the heavy rainfall associated with Typhoon 9810 exceeded 63 billion yen.
