Abstract

Field investigations were carried out from a view point of earthquake engineering in mid July, 7 weeks after the earthquake occurrence utilising questionnaire intensity surveys and microtremors measurements. In Sabo and Okha Cities seismic intensity surveys were carried out distributing about 200 questionnaire sheets, which were developed and used widely in Japan. Estimated mean intensities at Sabo and Okha were 5.6 and 5.2 in MSK scale respectively. At Neftegorsk all the collapsed apartments and buildings had been demolished and buried. Though we could not investigate collapsed buildings at the site, we surveyed apartments of the same type and various types of buildings in Okha City and investigated structural details. Natural period of each type building was measured by use of microtremors. Microtremors on the ground surface were also observed at 13 points in Okha city in order to discuss site effects.
