Abstract
@The aim of this paper is to estimate the extreme heights of typhoon-generated waves in the Morode coastal area of Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku Island where the construction of a tension leg platform is being planned, based on wave hindcasting. Two discrete spectrl wave prediction models are applied to wave hindcasting in the West Pacific Ocean and the West Seto Inland Sea for many intense typhoons in the past 50 years, and analysis shows that extreme waves over 10 m height off Morode coast were brought about by Typhoon 45l6. Next, the computation of wave transformation in the Morode coastal area at the phase of maximum wave height during Typhoon 45l6 reveals that the extent of maximum waves in the sea area of concern is the wave height of 3.2 to 5.4 m, the wave period or 10.3 to 11.8 s and the wave direction of l30 to l45 degrees respectively.
